TTC Knocks Off Three-time Defending Champ LPC, While Tri-Hart Takes its First Ever Division II Title

– Wasaga participation up 39% year-over-year in Club Championship scoring events –

​August 31, 2017Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced the winners of its Club Championships, hosted by MultiSport Canada’s Wasaga Beach this past Saturday.

The 2017 Club Championships had the highest participation rate while being hosted at an MSC event. 31 clubs representing 209 athletes took part versus 25 clubs and 177 athletes in 2015, growth rates of 24% and 15%, respectively. The hosting of the Provincial event helped to increase year-over-year participation in Club Championship scoring races at Wasaga Beach by 39%, according to Sportstats.

Since the revamping of the Club Championships in 2014, Division I titans the Toronto Triathlon Club has played runner up to its friendly rival from Guelph, LPC Triathlon Club. On Saturday, the TTC finally dethroned the three-time champs with a score of 2,780 points versus 2,630 for LPC.

Rounding out the podium and the prize money was the Fighting Koalas with 1,470 points. The Koalas were two-time defending Division II champs heading into the competition but moved up to Division I due to membership growth. ​

In the Division II category, the Crystal Cup will see new champions engraved. Tri-Hart Triathlon Club scored 840 points to take the title and the $500 first prize. Runners up were C3 with 560 points, and third place went to the Saugeen Triathlon Club with 330 points.

Congratulations to all that participated and thank you to host MultiSport Canada for a great event. Award celebrations are tentatively set for December 2nd where the clubs will be officially presented their awards.
