Though this is a Provincial Championship Series, races are open to everyone. In fact, beginners are especially welcome! The unique indoor format makes these races fun for everyone.
Results to determine the Provincial Indoor Champions will be taken from the best two of three races. Only current Triathlon Ontario members are eligible for the Provincial Series or will be counted in the standings.
Final series ranking is determined by the sum of the best two of three performances.
|4-15th||18-7 descending order per placing|
In the event of a tie, athletes are ranked in order of their finish at Race #3. If neither athlete participates in said event, then the deciding race will default to the beginning of the schedule for which the athletes in question both participate in.
Indoor triathlons are a great way to try the sport of triathlon in a safe, fun, welcoming way. The swim is in a pool, the bike portion is on a stationary bike and the run is on an indoor track. Indoor tris are also inexpensive – all you need to race is a swimsuit, goggles, t-shirt and running shoes.
The indoor race format is simple: swim as many laps as possible in 15 minutes, ride as many kilometres as possible in 15 minutes, and run as many laps around the track as possible in 15 minutes. The farther you go, the more points you score.
The first event in the series ran on December 9th at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. The event featured some exciting competition, with Dominika Jamnicky and Jacob Chant taking the overall wins.
The second event in the series was the Personal Best Indoor Triathlon, held at McMaster University on February 18. The overall winners were Lionel Sanders and Kira Gupta-Baltazar.
The last event in the series is being held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on April 22.
Participants have the option to choose their start time, subject to availability. Registration is open to anyone 10 years of age and up, and every athlete receives a complimentary Triathlon Ontario water bottle and swim cap.
Volunteers are especially critical for indoor triathlon – we need lap counters and all kinds of assistance to make the race work. If you are coming to watch a friend or family member race, please consider volunteering at our Series Finale on April 22. It’s fun and helps everyone!
Volunteers can register using the same link as for the race itself – go through the same process, but choose “volunteer” at the membership step.
Races consist of a 15-minute lap swim, a 15-minute stationary bike, and a 15-minute track run.
