ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
The North Bay Triathlon started after the Schmidt family athletes attended a triathlon in Ottawa in the early 90’s and came back to North Bay saying “We should do that here “. Arne and Judy Schmidt along with the support of the North Bay Rotary Club made it happen and the first one sold out months ahead with about 75 participants. The organization of it eventually switched to the Kiwanis Club, especially its triathlon members.
This weekend is a true, all-around community event which shows off North Bay’s hospitality and unparalleled camaraderie. The support of local partners and the City of North Bay is second to none. All three of our triathlon events meet the highest standard and are sanctioned by Triathlon Ontario.
This year the weekend will kick off on Sunday, July 2nd with the North Bay Try-a-Tri, a timed event which is intended for those who are less experienced triathletes and want to “Try a Triathlon”. This event will be followed by the Adult Triathlon and Team event. This demanding, technical, unique distance course is halfway between a Sprint and an Olympic distance.
The weekend will wrap up, on Monday July 3rd with pure inspiration when 200 kids will participate in the North Bay Kids Triathlon, a non-competitive event run through the Birchhaven neighborhood.
?
All three events are based at the North Bay Canoe Club/Olmsted Beach at the head of Trout Lake on Lakeside Drive, in North Bay, Ontario.
We welcome you!
