National Championship Prep Camp

 

– Triathlon Ontario and Triathlon BC Partner to Host National Championship Prep Camp – 

 

June 6, 2018 – Two of Canada’s leading Multisport governing bodies, Triathlon Ontario and Triathlon BC, announced they will work collaboratively to provide emerging Junior and U23 athletes the opportunity to attend a 10-day development camp leading to the National Triathlon Championships.

The multi-day camp will be led by long-time stalwarts, Provincial Coaches Kelly Guest (BC) and Greg Kealey (Ontario). With a history of collaborative projects, the two coaches are building upon an a framework of partnerships, including a successful European training camp, and two-consecutive Canada Summer Games programs.
The prep camp runs from Tuesday, August 7th through to Thursday, August 16th, with Triathlon Canada’s National Championships taking place on August 18th and 19th. The camp will combine many of Canada’s fastest Junior and U23 athletes to fine tune fitness under the guidance of two of Canada’s most prominent development coaches.

The camp will be based out of the University of British Columbia – Okanagan Campus, in Kelowna, BC, an area renowned for award winning vineyards and rolling hills. Athlete fees include access to all facilities, ground transport throughout the camp, and all accommodations through to August 16th. Training sessions include pool and open water technical swimming, race-specific cycling preparation, road, track and trail running, mock races that place an emphasis on speed and skill, in addition to information seminars and race planning.

The camp is supported by the coaching staff, however, athletes are expected to cook, clean, shop and ensure all equipment is properly maintained. Athletes must also self-monitor and maintain proper recovery techniques as discussed during the daily evening debrief meetings.

The cost of the camp is $750 plus HST. Registration will be available shortly. Please contact either Triathlon BC or Triathlon Ontario for inquires or expressions of interest.
