Subaru Guelph Lake 1 to Host Club Championships and Final OSG Qualifier

January 20, 2016 – Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced the Subaru Guelph Lake 1 event will host the popular 2016 edition of Triathlon Ontario’s Club Championships and the final qualifier or “Wild Card” for the 2016 Ontario Summer Games.

Club Championships
The event will be held over the June 18/19 weekend and the format from the previous two seasons will continue. Clubs will be divided into two categories, Division I for clubs with more than 50 members and Division II, clubs with less than 50 members at the time of competition. Each Division will each compete for purse of $1,000, $2,000 total, courtesy of Triathlon Ontario. $500 will be awarded for first, $300 for second place and $200 for third.
Clubs score points based on members’ position in their age category as well as participation points. For more details about the rules of the competition please see the Triathlon Ontario website.

Ontario Summer Games Qualifier
Guelph Lake 1’s Try-a-Tri will also serve as the final qualifying opportunity for those 2016 Triathlon Ontario members aged 15 or 16 as of December 31, 2016 who are seeking to participate in the 2016 Ontario Summer Games.

The Games are being held August 11-13, 2016 at Jack Darling Park in Mississauga. There are currently 2 female spots and 1 male spot available. The Wild Card race results will also be used to replace previously qualified athletes that for whatever reason, cannot compete this year. While the qualification race is non-draft legal format, the OSG competitions are draft legal. As a condition of accepting a spot the athletes must commit to becoming draft legal certified prior to the OSG competition.

The individual OSG race will be on the morning of August 12 and the mixed relay event (now a medal event) will be on the morning of August 13. Athletes are expected to compete in both events.
