Due to high demand, Triathlon Ontario is offering an additional NCCP Community Triathlon Coach Part 1 course online utilizing the Zoom platform.
Dates & Times: This course is offered in two sessions of four hours each over two days. All sessions are required in order to complete Part 1.
Sunday, February 25, 2024: 8:00am – 12:00pm;
Sunday, March 3, 2024: 8:00am – 12:00pm.
This course comprises Part 1 of the two-part course NCCP Community Triathlon Coach, including the module Coaching Beginner and Age Group Triathletes.
Coaches will cover safety, coaching philosophy, planning workouts, and designing programs for triathletes. Part 1 prepares coaches to complete activity plans and Emergency Action plans in swim, bike, run and transition, which will be used in Part 2.
This Part 1 session is completely online; no sport equipment is required. Coaches will need to dress comfortably enough to do a series of simple stretches and exercises.
As an online course, this session is particularly suited for coaches who are located in remote areas or who would have to travel extensively to attend a course in the 401/400 corridor.
NCCP Community Triathlon Coach is the starting point for triathlon coaches, and completion of Parts 1 and 2 is the primary requirement to run a club, workout, clinic, or camp sanctioned by Triathlon Ontario.
The triathlon coaching pathway has recently been updated, so this is an all-new course featuring new material and an updated practical component.
The full course consists of Part 1 and Part 2. Coaches will need to complete both parts in order to be qualified. Part 2 includes the modules Coaching and Assessing Triathlon Skills and Coaching to Events and is delivered a one-day, in-person course. During Part 2, coaches will lead the mini-activities they planned in Part 1.
Though open to all Triathlon Ontario members, this course is one of those in the new Triathlon Community Coaching Pathway. As such, it’s particularly suited for those coaches looking to coach beginner, recreational, and age-group athletes, and those coaches working toward NCCP Community certification.
The outcomes of the NCCP Community Triathlon Coach program are:
- Make Ethical Decisions
- Provide Support to Athletes in Training
- Plan a Practice
- Analyze Performance
- Support the Competitive Experience
- Design a Sport Program

This actually improves the course, as much of what coaches do relates to modifying exercises to accommodate injured athletes. For practical sessions, we will asign groups of coaches based on similar ability.
