Triathlon Ontario Announces Hosts and Venues for its Provincial Cups Series

– Youth, Junior, Elite/U23 Cup Series & Ontario Summer Games qualifiers –

January 11, 2017Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced today the venues for the 2017 Cup Series and the 2018 Ontario Summer Games qualifiers.

The Triathlon Ontario Cup Series consists of the Youth Cup, Junior Cup and Elite/U23 Cup. Establishing and promoting a provincially standardized level of competition, where athletes can develop their skills sets locally in a competitive environment, is one of four key objectives of Triathlon Ontario’s Provincial Development Program. Since the first Youth Cup in 2013, annual participation rates have grown by double digits and that robust participation growth continued to the Junior Cup last year in its second season.

The 14-15 Division of the Youth Cup will serve as the 2018 Ontario Summer Games qualifiers. The OSG is a draft legal individual and mixed relay competition open to members that are 15 or 16 years of age as of December 31 2018. There will be 23 male and female spots available for qualification in 2017 with one spot plus cancellations being held over for a 2018 “wild card” race.

The following are a list of the venues and the various competitions they are hosting:

June 17/18 Ottawa International Triathlon

In its second year, the Ottawa International Triathlon will serve as National Championships once again for a variety of competitions.

The ITU, Triathlon Canada and race organizers have worked together to premier a new and exciting format for Elites, U23 and Juniors. Qualification heats of short and fast races will take place on Saturday in an effort to qualify for Sunday’s A and B finals with all three age groups racing together.

July 15 (tentative date) – Stittsville KOS *Registration details coming soon!

The Stittsville Kids of Steel will be introducing a new style of racing in 2017, “Grand Prix” racing consists of multiple short races on the same day and athlete’s total time is added together.

This style is fast and fun and helps athletes develop speed, tactics and recovery.

July 23Toronto Triathlon Festival

Toronto’s waterfront will once again serve host to Ontario’s next generation of stars as they fly down the Gardner and Don Valley Parkway faster than most cars do on a typical commute.

July 30Tecumseh Triathlon Weekend *Registration details coming soon!

The Series moves to the most southern triathlon in the country when it visits the Tecumseh for the first time.

August 12Draft Legal Provincial Championships *Registration details coming soon!

Welland plays host again in 2017 to Triathlon Ontario’s signature event after a successful move in 2016. This will be the final stop for Juniors and Elites/U23s as Series champions will be crowned.

August 20Dunrobin KOS *Registration details coming soon!

After a year’s absence, one of the original venues to offer draft legal racing for Youth and Juniors makes a welcome return to the schedule. This will be the season finale for the 14-15 division of the Youth Cup

September 9 MultiSport Canada Lakeside KOS

The season finishes with a return visit to Lakeside.

This will be the final stop on the 12-13 division of the Youth Cup and will once again host the Youth Club Championship which consists of 12-13 and 14-15 age groups.
