Mastroianni Repeats While Chant Claims First U15 Youth Cup Series Title

– Linde-Elmhirst and Mackenzie lock up 12-13 title heading into final stop –

?August 21, 2017Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced the updated Youth Cup Series standings after Sunday’s Dunrobin KOS.

14-15 Division
Sunday’s race was the finale to the five-stop 2017 Youth Cup for the 14-15 Division. The 2017 season featured a total of 54 athletes, which represents a 170% increase in participation from the inaugural 2013 season.

?Isabella Mastroianni won yesterday, giving her a total of 95 points and a nine point series victory over second place Cassie Greer (86 points), who also came second place at Dunrobin. This is a repeat victory for the Sudbury based athlete, winning last season’s Cup Series as well. Meg Wheeler used a third place finish yesterday to earn a third place finish in the series with a 76 point total.

?Jacob Chant’s previous four performances were good enough to secure 89 points and his first Cup Series trophy as he was idle on the final day. Garrett Mason, finishing the season with two strong second places, took second on the day and second in the series with 78 points. Alex Lambert’s win on Sunday moved his position up the standings to sit in third spot just behind Mason at 77 points. Aiden Mackenzie was third in Dunrobin, ending the series in fourth position at 72 points.

Congratulations to all of the athletes, coaches, clubs, race organizers, officials, volunteers and parents, for helping to make the series another successful one.

Ontario Summer Games
Dunrobin was the final OSG qualifier of the 2017 season. There will be one more race in 2018 (TBD) where athletes that did not qualify yet, will have a “Wild Card” opportunity to qualify for the 2018 London OSG.

?Congratulations to the 10 youth programs with qualified athletes. This represents the largest number of youth programs ever to be represented at an OSG.

?12-13 Division
Nadiya Linde-Elmhirst won yesterday, ensuring a repeat Cup Series victory regardless of the outcome at the finale in Lakeside. Linde-Elmhirst stands at 86 points. Mackenzie Garside took second place Sunday, which puts her in second in the series at 78 points. Astrid Bergman rounded out the podium at Dunrobin, positioning her in fourth overall with 64 points. Third position in the series with one race to go is Aliksandrea Jones at 66 points, who finished fourth yesterday.

?Ian Mackenzie made it four-for four, winning in Dunrobin and locking up the Cup Series title with a maximum 100 points. Simon Scholey sits in second place in the series with 75 points after taking third in yesterday’s event. William Weist is holding firm in third place with 72 points after a fourth place finish and Sage Sulentic earned a silver to complete the podium in yesterday’s event, giving him 59 points for the series.

Youth Club Championships
The 12-13 Division wraps up at MultiSport Canada’s Lakeside KOS on Sept. 9th. This event will also serve as the second edition of Triathlon Ontario’s Youth Club Championships. Athletes in the 12-13 and 14-15 age groups will battle to earn points towards their club’s chances to hold the Crystal Cup.
